a thought on food

Let's get one thing straight. I like to eat. Let me be more specific. I like to eat good food.
When I'm introduced to new (and old) ideas of what one should be eating to be healthy and respectful to the body I like to keep an open mind. As a performing artist I strive to remain healthy, and happy. And I'm happy when I'm healthy. However, when I go to a restaurant whose only desserts are forms of tofu pie... something is wrong. If you're going to have dessert, for pete's sake, have a dessert.
I have never been able to deny myself certain types of food. I have never been "on a diet" so to speak. I like sugar, chocolate, bread, cheese, meat. I appreciate a well cooked meal. My philosophy is to keep things simple. I try to eat fresh foods and avoid preservatives. I think my body feels better when I indulge in its cravings (in moderation of course). And I can say that I'm a healthy woman.
I recently went to a macrobiotic restaurant and had a good meal but went home a bit unsatisfied. OK, I get the no refined flour or sugar. OK, so it's vegetarian. But why deprive yourself of decent spices? What is a restaurant without salt and pepper good for anyway?
And just say no to sugar-free, dairy-free soy desserts. That's an oxymoron.
